Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in the vicinity of the Luobadui Reservoir of the Linzhou County, Lhasa Region, Tibet. It was named by Li Pu in 1955.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. The Majula Member is composed of grey and light-purplish-red massive cherty nodule-bearing limestone, with a thickness of 4692 m. The Luobadui Reservoir Member is composed of dark-grey limestone, intercalated with intermediate-basic volcanic rocks and sandstone, with a thickness of about 180 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Wululong Fm

Upper contact

Regionally, next higher unit is the Lielonggou Fm (Changhsingian)

Regional extent

Distributed in the areas of Linzhou, Mozugongka and Namuco of the Lhasa Region.

Majula Member yields abundant animal fossils, including Fusulinida represented by Neoschwagerina, Verbeekina, Yangchienia, Dunbarula, Lantschichites, Rugososchwagerina, etc.; Corals such as Iranophyllum, Ipciphyllum, Wentzelellites, Parawentzella, etc.,

Luobadui Reservoir Member yields Fusulinida represented by Yabeina, Neoschwagerina, etc.,


Age 

Majula Member is Kufengian Stage of the Yangsingian Epoch = mid-Guadalupian Epoch (mid-Middle Permian). Luobadui Reservoir Member is Lengwuan Stage of the Yangsingian Epoch = Capitanian Stage (late Guadalupian Epoch; late-Middle Permian)
